Last Singer Standing, was a TV show hosted by Nicky Byrne and featuring pop panelists Nadine Coyle, Samantha Mumba, and Joey Fatone. It brought a fresh twist to the music competition format, combining singing talent with tactical gameplay as contestants battled it out for a €25,000 prize.
I joined the ShinAwiL team as a Production Assistant, just a few weeks out of college. It was my first proper job in television, one I dropped out of a master’s in Computer Science at UCD to keep. My days were a mix of everything, but mainly involved driving around Dublin to pick up whatever was needed to keep the production running (with COVID protocols meaning endless cleaning supplies) and managing media delivery and archiving.
One of my main responsibilities was transporting shot footage to the post house after each show, delivering masters to RTÉ for archiving, and creating LTO backups in-house at ShinAwiL.
It was a crash course in how TV is really made: long hours, and quick turnarounds. For a first step into the industry, it was exciting, and very hands-on.
